Samuel Kunin wins the Scripps Spelling Bee at SCS

Congratulations to Samuel Kunin, our Scripps Spelling Bee Champion!

Samuel Kunin, sixth grader, won the Shelburne Community School Scripps Spelling Bee and has been enrolled to participate in the Scripps Vermont State Bee that will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at McCarthy Hall on the Saint Michael’s College campus.  Sam Kunin was one of over 130 SCS students in grades 3-8 who took a written qualifying test.  The top 15 middle school spellers and the top five scorers from grades 3, 4, and 5 qualified to participate in the school spelling bee.  At the end of the bee, Sam emerged the winner with Kassidy Cleveland, also a sixth grader, as the runner-up. Congratulations to all the students who participated.  Excellent effort and good sportsmanship were demonstrated by all participants. More information about the state competition may be found at the Vermont Principal's Association website: or on the Scripps Spelling Bee website.
