SCS announces new CoPrincipal hire for 2017/18

Mr. Scott Sivo has been appointed Co-Principal at Shelburne Community School.   Mr. Sivo will begin his leadership duties on July 1, 2017 and will jointly lead SCS with Co-Principal Allan Miller. Sivo follows Co-Principal Patricia Beaumont who has been at SCS for five years.  PTO Co-President Dawn Fragola who served on the search committee commented, “As a parent of a student at SCS, I feel our school is very fortunate to welcome Scott into our community.  He has a positive attitude and cheerful outlook.  He is a careful listener, and he is willing to consider many different perspectives when processing information.  When we met with the students, parents, teachers and administrators at his current school, MUMS, the respect and affection they felt for Scott was unanimous and heartfelt.  I think Scott and Allan will be a great team!”

New SCS CoPrincipal Scott Sivo - 

Sivo brings eight years of administrator experience to Shelburne Community School, both as
Assistant Principal at Middlebury Union Middle School where he currently serves, and Hull
High School in Hull MA.   Prior to his leadership roles, Scott taught Social Studies at G.R. Edwards Middle School in Rocky Mount, N.C. and at Hull High School. Scott received his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Education from Colby College in 2003 and his Master of Education degree from Endicott College in 2009. During his tenure, Hull was recognized by US DOE as a 2012 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, and by the AP for expanding testing opportunities while simultaneously improving test scores. In 2005, Scott was a nominee for the North Carolina Sue Lehmann Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has coached and advised athletic and academic groups in every school in which he has served.

Superintendent Elaine Pinckney warmly welcomes Sivo. “I am delighted to welcome Scott Sivo to the Shelburne Community School and to the leadership team of the Champlain Valley School District. Scott is a collaborative educator who brings exceptional skills, focus, and a student-centered mindset.”

Jensa Bushey, SCS faculty member, looks forward to Scott’s excellent communication skills, overall positive attitude, and abundant energy. “I feel Scott will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in regards to building and maintaining a positive and proactive school climate of trust, respect, equity and collaboration.  His ability to connect with students, parents, and community members will benefit Shelburne for many years to come.”

Sivo, a Shelburne resident, is excited to join the Shelburne Community School team. “The opportunity to help lead Shelburne Community School is the greatest honor of my career.  I hope to bring a palpable energy and a real sense of joy to the work ahead.  I look forward to getting to know the students, faculty, and staff of SCS.  I also look forward to partnering with the hundreds of families who entrust their children to SCS for the very same reasons my wife and I have.”
