Welcoming the Vermont Bucks !

A few weeks ago our family went to watch the inaugural game of the Vermont Bucks arena football team - really a fun night at Gutterson Arena as they rolled to their first of five straight victories.    Afterwards we had the chance to go down on the field to meet the players and coaches - turns out that head coach Ervin Bryson is a huge supporter of schools and immediately wanted to know when he could bring some players by to talk with our students.    So today we had Coaches Claude Flynn and Matthew Rood, as well as Quarterback Steffen Colon and Defensive Lineman Milhomme Jean-Charles come share their love of football with the Holden Team.    What we expected to be a short 20 min share turned into a energetic 45 minute question and answer session that included great conversations around teamwork, dedication, and the role of education in becoming a professional athlete . . . overall just a fantastic message for our young people from some really engaging young men.   The consensus comment when I asked at lunch . . . "that was awesome." Apologies for any autographed arms (and one forehead) - the enthusiasm was a bit over the top :-)

Coach Evans introducing #2 - Steffen Colon, #35 -    and Special Teams Coach Matthew Rood
Love the new learning commons - easy to pull together an entire team for an experience like this!
The group then joined our kids out at recess - if your son or daughter now wants to practice their back-flip touchdown celebration Steffen is definitely to blame :-)    We look forward to welcoming even more members of the team over the coming weeks - they have offered to join many of our PE classes, read in some elementary classes - they thought our kids were fantastic.   As Steffen was leaving his comment was - "this was the best part of my whole week!"

Game set-up at the Gutt - love the orange turf right on top of the ice :-)
Shameless plug for our new partners - the Bucks next game is Saturday night at the Gutt at 7 PM against the Rochester Kings  - here's a link the team shared today for a coupon that offers a free ticket for anyone 12 or under if you purchase one adult ticket.
