The SCS Geo Bee team had it's strongest showing ever this year.
|Our powerhouse GeoBee team - way to go!|
The Northwest Regional Championship was held on May 6th at Essex Middle School. Isaac Krementsov, Sam Kunin, and Kate Boget formed the core team for regionals. In a competition of both individual and team-based questions, there was a truly impressive display of geographic recall, placement, and understanding. In the end SCS had a come-from-behind performance to emerge victorious!

Shelburne was one of four teams that advanced to the state championship on Saturday, May 13th at Northfield Middle-High School. Once again Isaac Krementsov, Sam Kunin, and Kate Boget returned to represent SCS. Bolstering the team were Ben Wilson and Patton Wager. For two hours the four teams were peppered with a range of specific, challenging, and (at times) obscure questions connected to all things geography. SCS held the lead for most of the 12 rounds. As the competition came to a close, A.D. Lawton School answered some particularly difficult questions to take a late lead.
It was Isaac Krementsov who then answered his final question and the twelfth-round bonus to force a rare (possibly unprecedented - according to VPA representative Bob Johnson) tie! Through one more round between A.D. Lawton and Shelburne, the SCS squad came up just short. Being state runner-up didn't feel too bad though. Students received individual medals, a plaque for being regional champions, and another plaque for being state runners-up.

All-in-all the competition was a great opportunity for students who thrive with geography to shine. We're already looking forward to next year's competitions!
