SCS PE Teacher Kelly Spreen honored as Vermont's Middle Level Rising Star Teacher!

Every year the Vermont Association of Middle Level Educators - or VAMLE - selects one teacher in their first three years of teaching as Vermont's Rising Star and this year our own Kelly Spreen has been selected to receive this honor.    Any parents with middle school students have likely heard about some of the work that Kelly has led during her first year at SCS - offering fun and innovative PE classes for our middle schoolers, joining our Skills4Life team bringing great experience and expertise as our first ever health certified teacher, coaching girls basketball at SCS and JV lacrosse at CVU, bringing in new programs such as cross country skiing with the Catamount Trail Association, roller luge with the US Luge Junior Development Team, and helping guide our physical education department in developing common learning targets and implementing Jumprope standards based reporting.   It is truly a well deserved honor for her to be recognized as one of the most effective, innovative and energetic young educators in the entire state of Vermont.   Here are a few pictures that highlight this great year with Kelly in our PE program:

The very first week Kelly organized a chance for some students to experience Luge with the US Luge Team

Our Skills4Life classes added elements of Project Adventure and other hands-on initiatives

Kelly organized an opportunity for our students to get out and ski this winter with Catamount Trail Association

Everyone was all smiles after winning the CSSU Championships

Easy to see the energy and fun that Kelly brings to the gym everyday - we are so fortunate to have her on our team!   Kelly will be recognized at the annual VAMLE Scholar Leader Banquet at Norwich University on June 7 - receiving the award from Vermont Secretary of Education Rebecca Holcombe.
If you'd like to join us in offering her congratulations for a great first year at SCS and for this special recognition - I am sure she would appreciate a positive, thank you note to her email at  Congratulations Kelly!!
