SCS Poetry Slam a smashing success!

On Thursday, May 11th, the Winton Team hosted the SCS Middle School Poetry Slam in the Holden Community Space. With 29 students, from all three teams, performing original poetry to a full house, it was an overwhelming success. This year’s slam masters, Bryce Bowen and Avery Smith, kicked off the event by introducing the five fabulous judges, and kept the event rolling at an excellent pace.

Over 140 classmates packed the Holden Learning Commons to enjoy the efforts of their peers

This year’s judges, who had a tough job,  were Shelburne Poet Laureate Rick Bessette, Allan Miller, Carin Lilly, Devon Morrill, and Kari Ahern. The student poems ran the gamut from deeply personal, to activist, to completey goofy. All were entertaining, with the top scores coming from Nina Pike, Claudia Dornbierer (performing a poem they wrote with Briege Riley), Gabbie Lindenmeyr, and Evan McMahan. Below are videos of these poems performed by their authors.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended, with positive and enthusiastic support shown for all the performers. A special thank you goes out to Carly Bennett - who was the mastermind, organizer and supporter whose poetic energy and enthusiasm was the catalyst for making this great event happen! Congratulations everyone - especially our 29 fantastic slammers - you all were fantastic!
