7th Annual GSA Conference Highlights

Four SCS student representatives and adult advisor, Amy Sayre, from the SCS SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) group attended the Outright VT Gender and Sexuality Alliance Conference in Hyde Park, VT on 1/16/19.  Four eighth graders enthusiastically represented Shelburne Community School. At the conference students were able to connect with their peers, make new friends, develop new skills, and to share the important ways they are all making their schools more informed and inclusive.

Over 150 students and 25 advisors from 34 middle and high schools gathered for the 7th Annual GSA Conference.  It was the biggest GSA Conference Vermont has ever held.  Outright VT celebrated the gathering sharing that the event sends a clear message that LGBTQ youth and allies are in every corner of Vermont and ready to change the whole world, one school at a time.  "It was really great to see other kids like us," said Tallula Allen.

Christine Hallquist, former Vermont gubernatorial candidate and the first trans woman to run for Governor in the US, was the keynote speaker.  She shared her life story in a deeply moving and meaningful way that had a profound effect on all in attendance.  "The speaker was really inspiring and I'm glad she shared her story with us," Dominik Tetreault shared.
