Reading is an Investment Program

Congratulations to Leo Zevallos!

Leo was one of 20 winners out of over 5600 students in Vermont who participated in the Reading is an Investment Program. Leo won a  $250 VSAC college savings account.

Winners will be recognized on Thursday, April 11th in Montpelier, Vermont. The awards ceremony will take place from noon to 1:00 pm in the Pavilion Auditorium, next to the State House. Following the event, winners will tour the State House.

Students in grades K-5 participated in the Vermont Treasurer’s program in the library, reading the three stories that addressed this year’s theme: "Wants, Needs, and Everything in Between.”

We discussed the difference between wants and needs, and considered  how these types of choices impact personal and financial outcomes.

The 3 books gave students the opportunity to learn about basic financial concepts, how an individual’s choices impact their ability to achieve a desired financial goal, and discuss opportunity cost.
